Do you have experience in our industry?

Over the last few decades we have worked with an extensive range of businesses in many industry sectors, from heavy engineering, mining and IT to hairdressing, modelling and makeup, from eco-tourism and environmental consultants to architects and meditation teachers.

It’s not so much your industry sector that we need experience in but understanding your dreams, aspirations and business objectives in relationship to your target market and your competitors.

I will supply pictures and text, what format do you want them in?

For text: Word .rtf accompanied by a hard copy or a PDF proof.

How will I receive the work from you?

In the appropriate file format: be it Press PDF or PDF/X-1a:2001 for high quality print or Screen PDF, Adobe Press PDF files for print, Postscript, .PSD, JPEG or GIF—whatever is appropriate for the specified end use, delivered via email or mailed on CD.

You will receive, as a matter of course the files for your archiving purposes, and if it is a logo project these will be supplied in a variety of sizes and formats. TOP

What about copyright?
This is automatically assigned to you once final payment has cleared into our account. Any concepts developed and not chosen remain our property.

We reserve the right to use any work for promotional purposes. In order to continue to provide competitive rates it is the client’s responsibilty to verify and ensure that anything supplied to us or by us does not infringe upon any statutory copyright. TOP

Will you supply your source, working files on the completion of the project?

No. Firstly all source files remain our property, and over the years we have developed a lot of ‘tricks of the trade’ that we are not prepared to release. As our valued client you reap the reward of these in the speed and efficiency with which we can produce the work and keep costs down. We will supply flattened .PSD and flattened Vector files in the archive if required. TOP

I don’t know where to start; I have never worked with professional designers before — can you help?

That’s what we are here for. There is an initial in-depth meeting where we ascertain you needs and wants by going through the following questions in great detail:

1. Background

Who are you? What’s the big picture? What’s happening in the marketplace? How are you positioned relative to your competition?

2. Objectives

What is the prime business objective you want to achieve? Why? Why now? What is your expected outcome? What effect do you want the communication to have on the target audience? What do you want them to feel, to think and, most importantly, to do?

3. Target Audience

Who, precisely, are we communicating with? Demographics, psychographics, age, gender, income, ethnicity etc.

4. What do we want to say?

Do you have a Unique Selling Propostion? What is the core essence of your brand? What is the single-minded propostion for this communication? What are the benefits, advantages and features of your product/service? What is the most important thing we can say that will enable you to reach your objective?

5. What do we need?

How will the communication be delivered to the target audience? What is the ‘Call to Action’? Is there an offer? Is it time sensitive? What is the format, size, structure, scope and description of the marketing activity/collateral?

6. What are the mandatory elements?

Logos, wordmarks, contact names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, free call number, ABN, email address and URL, codes, reference numbers, corporate colours and typeface…

7. When is it required?

Realistic delivery dates are required and essential.

8. How many do we need?

In order to establish the budget quantities are required.

9. What is the budget?

Is there an appropriate budget allocated for the project?

10. Who is responsible for approvals?

Who signs of the proposal? The brief? Stage approvals? Final sign off? What is their availability? We will require contact details of everyone involved.

There is a simplified 'Process Map' here that outlines the steps of a print project from start to finish.TOP

I need it done yesterday…?

Sure, but we charge a loading of between 50%-100%, depending on complexity, degree of rush, and current workloads we are commited to. TOP

What is your privacy policy?

We will not sell, giveaway or provide any personal or corporate client information to any third party under any circumstances unless we have been instructed in writing by the client to do so. We are more than happy to sign CDAs. TOP

How involved can I be in the process?

We require and need your involvement. The closer we work together with our clients in understanding their objectives and their target audience the better the result will be.

However this is not an invitation to micro-manage us!

As we are in the communications business we believe in strong and open lines of communcation at all times. TOP

Are you willing to come up with a range of concepts free of charge so I can choose which designer to employ?

In a word—no. We do not do 'Free Pitches'; we consider it to be unethical. If you want us to work for you it will need to be on a normal, professional fee-for-service basis. TOP

I've just found an error on the delivered, printed material, do you take responsibility?

No — we don't accept any responsibility. You will have signed a Client Release to authorise the job to go to print, and most likely an Client Approval To Print from the printer as well, there's an old saying in the print industry: "All care taken, no responsibility accepted."

On signing these Client Approvals and Client Releases you, as our esteemed and honoured client, will have willingly and legally accepted all personal responsibility for the final accuracy of the job and Released us from any responsibility.

All and any changes made after a Release has been signed are billable.

On our Client Release form there is not only an extensive checklist of things to look for when proofing a document but how to look at, see and proof a document effectively.

Reprints are expensive, so please be very careful.

(Always get someone else to check it too…) TOP
